Way back in the early 1980’s the issue for a humanities researcher was being able to find the object.   You followed trails into museums, libraries, archives.  You trawled card catalogues and went down many rabbit holes.   That changed with the advent of the internet and a digital world… or did it?  There is a real danger that we have magnified the problem in cultural heritage - a lot of digitisation has not seen the light of day, was of poor quality and suffered quite badly from linkrot.   In this post digital world we have a surfeit of information but will it still be there for the generations to come and should we be judged on this?  This talk will look at the issues and barriers to interoperability and lack of persistence for the cultural heritage sector, taking Europeana as the primary case study, but straying into the specifics for an institution such as the Hunt Museum.
